Inspired by classic tennis sneakers Northampton designed a simple derby cut upper and a unique last.
A deliberate hint of traditional shoe in the shape of the heel panel gives a nod to Northamptonshire heritage. Subtle brogue punching features add a 'British' feel. The factory apply these to many of their traditional products.
The natural leather storm welt around the top of the sole not only resembles the stitch around those classic tennis sneakers, but is also fully functional, attaching sole to upper in the Goodyear Welting process. Invented in 1869 by Charles Goodyear Jr this involves stitching sole and upper together.
Normal sneakers are simply glued together and this glue can perish or fail over time. Once the sole has worn out then the whole sneaker has to be discarded. Goodyear welting gives the opportunity to un-stitch and replace the sole. The tread of this sole is by Vibram of Italy. They selected the very best materials, as used by the rest of the Northamptonshire shoe artisans for every part of the NSC.
Each pair of NSC sneakers takes around thirty hours to hand craft and goes through two hundred separate operations during it's creation. The result of all this time, effort and attention to detail is a sneaker manufactured like no other, and of outstanding quality & longevity.
Sizing is generous. Those borderline on a shoe size should think smaller not bigger.
