An object containing a camera at one end, and a cast specimen crystal at the other. As the hourglass is rotated one object is uncovered, and the other begins the process of burial. This kind of cyclical archaeology, and the entropic function which it conveys is something that Daniel Arsham has been interested in since the beginning of his work.
Arsham's Hourglasses are instruments that attempt to bend time and reform our interpretation of it. This device perfectly encapsulates many of the ideas present in the artists larger body of work; fictional archeology, material manipulation, time travel, science fiction and the occult, and an engineering of our expectations of how objects should function and act.
