Tetsu Yamashita as a sickle maker was asked to make a pencil sharpener with a round head, so he produced the Sperm Whale knife. As a result of its immense popularity, Tetsu also created other whale knives including a letter opener.

In 2002, Mr. Yamashita became a Japanese Traditional Craftsman certified by the Japanese Government.

These whale knives made by Tosa can be used for various crafts (including sharpening pencils). The knives are extremely sharp, so they must be handled with care, but it can be used with confidence because it is shaped in an easy to use form.
