This stunning, art glass vase seems to bridge different worlds: natural and manmade; earthy and refined; practical and otherworldly.
The base is the gnarled root of a gamal tree. Quick growing but relatively short-lived, gamal trees are used by farmers in Indonesia as live fencing. New saplings grow in to replace the older growth, and local artisans have discovered ways to use the intricate beauty of their roots.
Here, those roots are draped with a hand blown glass vessel, which takes on a unique, organic form as it cradles into the nooks and ridges of its new base. On its own, the piece is a striking, sculptural accent for any room, but it can be put to use as well. It provides a eye-catching setting for cut flowers, a one-of-a-kind wine decanter, or can even serve as a tabletop fish bowl.
Because of the nature of the materials, no two will ever be the same.
